Trust and guidance
Teaching standards
Our standards describe observable preparation, teaching, and communication. They guide consistent care without promising a particular academic result.
Prepare from current evidence
Tutors prepare from the learner’s current work, questions, prior lesson observations, and relevant school feedback. Preparation should identify what evidence will show whether the learner understands the point.
Set one focused lesson goal
Each lesson should have a focused lesson goal that is narrow enough to teach and check. The goal can change when current evidence shows a more immediate gap.
Make reasoning visible
The tutor should model the reasoning behind a method or answer, not only show a completed solution. Questions and worked examples should help the learner explain the thinking in their own words.

Check, adapt and practise
Lessons include guided practice and checks for understanding. When the learner remains unsure, the tutor should adapt the pace, representation, example, or amount of support before moving on.
Close with practice and a parent update
The lesson closes with appropriate homework or next practice. A parent update records the focus, observations, practice, and next step without turning progress into an outcome promise.
Keep online tuition respectful and bounded
Appropriate online conduct keeps communication and lesson activity relevant to tuition, respectful, and bounded. Tutors should not request unnecessary private contact, information, or material.
Raise concerns rather than conceal them
Tutors should raise learning, conduct, safeguarding, or arrangement concerns through the appropriate route rather than conceal them. Clear escalation allows the family and PAIRO to decide the next responsible step.
